The Carriage House Cottage at Westard Farm

There is a fully-equipped kitchenette that includes a two-burner gas cooktop, microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker, full-size refridgerator/freezer, compact sink, dishes, utensils, pot and pans. There is no oven but there is a gas grill out on the patio where there are chairs for relaxing outdoors. Overhead there is a reading loft. The cottage is also stocked with books and videos about the area's natural and human history. The cottage has free wireless broadband internet access, cable television, and a DVD and VCR player. There are coloring books and videos for children. There is good cellular telephone signal from the property. To see a map of grounds click here.

What's Included
The Carriage House at Westard Farm comes fully furnished with everything you need for a relaxing, memorable stay. Our central location is perfect for launching your hiking, biking, wildlife watching or paddling trips. The cottage is located approximately 100 feet from the main house on land that was once an abandoned farm. There is an unattached garage in between.
The cottage was built in 2007 as a private guest house. The clean, airy cottage includes a living room with gas log fireplace, a sofa, chairs and a dining table and TV. The ground floor bedroom has a queen-size bed and bureau, hanging space for clothes, as well as a ceiling fan. The bathroom has a vanity sink, toliet and shower with plenty of hot water. One set of linens and towels are provided for the week.

The free Island Explorer Shuttle bus passes the driveway dozens of times each day. They stop with the wave of a hand and will let people off anywhere it is safe. Routes connect with every village on the island and most points of interest and trail heads in Acadia. The buses, which can accommodate bicycles, can be tracked in real time on the service's website meaning minimal waiting time by the road.
Your hosts, Roxie Brechlin, a Bar Harbor native, and Earl Brechlin, a Registered Maine Guide, are always willing to share all of the island and park's best spots. In fact, evening kayak tours of the Somes Pond Nature Preserve can be arranged for an additional fee. We can also arrange for discounts for our guests with area sea kayak tour operators.

Outside at the private parking spot there is a faucet and hose and electrical outlet. Also, a 15-foot Old Town Canoe for use by guests at any time is stored outside with life jackets, paddles and cartopping gear. A week's rental of a canoe elsewhere can cost $190 per week. The canoe is perfect for exploring Acadia's lakes, ponds and marshes which abound with birds and wildlife. There is a 450-foot wooded nature trail and a "Tribal Council" (click for pics) area with stone patio, fire pit, and picnic table where guests are free to enjoy an evening campfire. Maximum occupancy is three (two adults).

The Carriage House Cottage at Westard Farm rents only by the week from Saturday to Saturday. Check in time is 3 p.m. and checkout time is 10 a.m. A 50 percent non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your week. We offer a discount for multiple-week rentals. There is a 7 percent Maine State room tax on the rental.
The balance is due two weeks prior to arrival. If you cancel and we are able to find another rental party, we will refund the deposit.
A $250 security deposit check is required upon arrival. It will be returned in person or in the mail upon satisfactory inspection. The cottage should be left "broom" clean upon departure.
The maximum occupancy is two adults and a child. There is parking for two vehicles. No pets are allowed and there is no smoking allowed on the property. There is a extra charge for additional changes of towels etc.
To make a reservation, please go to the availability page and check the grid. Green means a week is available. Orange means a deposit is pending. Red means the week is not available. There is also a link to a downloadable reservation form that must be returned with the deposit. We accept personal and bank checks or charge cards via a secure link through Paypal. Simply follow the instructions on the availability page.
